Acne is skin condition where the pores of the skin get blocked by hair, bacteria, dead skin cells and sebum (Sebum is an oily substance).

Those blockages produce blackheads, nodules, whiteheads and pimples.

Causes of Acne.

  • Stress
  • Some medications
  • Genetics
  • The use of oily or greasy skin care products
  • Menstrual Period
  • Air pollution or free radicals.

Now, let’s take a look at the 4 common types of acne.

— Whiteheads- These are bumps that are closed by oil and dead skin

— Blackheads- They on the other hand are open bumps that are filled with dead skin and excess oil.

— Papules – They are small red or pink bumps that become inflamed

— Pustules – These are pimples containing pus. They can cause scarring if picked or scratched.

Few tips on How to treat acne:

  • Benzoyl peroxide – This agent is available as an over-the-counter product as a wash or lotion. You could use 5%- 10% in  strength, and some good brand you could consider are – PanOxyl, Zapzyt, Clearasil etc
  • Azelaic acid – It’s a natural acid found in various grains such as wheat and barley. It kills microorganisms on the skin and reduces swelling. The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% – 30ml
